Bun hairstyles are easy to do and they make it look like you put a ton of effort into your hair, when it really only took a few minutes. Dry shampooLike most hairstyles, bun hairstyles work best with second or third day hair. Since unwashed hair can get greasy, dry shampoo will help condition your hair and remove excess grease so your updo hairstyles look as chic as possible. Whether you have long hair, short hair, straight or curly, bobby pins are a must have for bun hairstyles. Frizz and flyaways can be even more evident with bun hairstyles, so be sure to use hair oil for a super smooth finish. 12 bun hairstyles for short hair

One of the things I miss the most about long hair is being able to easily throw it into a big, messy bun on top of my head. With short hair, I had to embrace the half knot since I can't do a fun high ponytail anymore. A half knot is so easy and cute and it's really a fun update to my everyday waves. So here is how to tie a high half knot for short or even long hair. Pictures of JNelly
How to tie a half knot
Step One - Start with Beachy Waves
First, start with beach waves. You don't have to make waves, but I think it adds texture and the overall look of this style. For more grit and texture to help hair hold, you can also add dry shampoo (I love these) and texturizing spray. You don't want to pull it that far because the knot really needs to be over your head. Step 4
Then take the section and pull it through the elastic again, but only 2/3 of the way. Fifth step
Twist the hair tie (leaving that 1/3 section still out) and tie around the 2/3 section to create the messy knot. A half knot is such a fun style to wear for everyday errands, weekends with friends, but even for an event. It's also a great way to keep your hair out of your face that isn't in a ponytail. So, a top half knot is a great alternative for super short hair. I even made a braided top knot before which you can check out here. How to tie the top knot step by step
A step by step tutorial on how I tie my top half knot. This method works for all hair lengths and also if you choose to tie a full top knot and not just a half.
The Perfect Messy Bun In 3 Easy Steps
Consider a messy bun one of life's great ironies: when it comes to beauty, the most undone looks usually require the most effort. In our quest to master the perfect messy bun I woke up to, we ended up with looks that were too messy and deflated, too tight, or just plain wrong. Think of it this way: a tousled, messy bun is to dirty hair what glitter is to a night out—absolutely essential if you want to do it right. "The messy bun is playful and timelessly chic," says Jill Engelsen, New York-based hairstylist and National Academy L'Oréal Professionnel artist. "Most importantly, you feel like you when you wear a messy bun — you don't feel like you're trying to be something you're not."Read on to find out how you can achieve the classic look in just three easy steps, plus three more ways to change up your messy bun.

To make a messy bun, gather all your hair away from your face and neck and hold it at the top of your head. Keep the high ponytail tied loosely and skip the brush, depending on how messy you want a bun it will add to the casual look. Then, to build your high bun, wrap this long twist around the base of your ponytail (where your hair meets the back of your head). Secure your bun
Tie a rubber band or rubber band around the bun to hold it in place, then use bobby pins on the sides to hold the stray hair in place. You can personalize it by adding an original scrunchie, an alluring bow or a patterned hair tie to match your clothes. Finish with hairspray

I Finally Mastered The Perfect Low Bun Thanks To This Hair Hack
Image Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Renee RodriguezJennifer Lopez's hairstylist Chris Appleton recently shared a low-bun hairstyle hack on TikTok. Although the favorite low bun hairstyle of off-duty models and celebrities seems effortless, I've found trying to recreate it isn't as easy as I originally thought. So when I saw a video from celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton showing how to get a sleek low bun, I knew I had to try it ASAP. The video has over two million views and counting, and if there's one person I trust when it comes to creating perfect hair, it's Appleton, the man behind some of the most great hairstyles from Jennifer Lopez. It usually takes about four hair ties and 10 bobby pins to hold everything in place (even with my fine hair), and it always ends up falling out within hours. What appealed to me about this new hack was that the style looked easy to pull off, and it made the model's hair look sleek and put together – much more put together than any low bun I've ever created. While my typical low bun looks messy with hair all over the place, Appleton's hack was key to creating a sleek look with little to no effort.
