Two Best Ways To Decorate A Room With Grey Floors

Whether you love your gray hardwood floors or prefer to fade them, I share two of the best ways to decorate around them. When you inherit your floors and paint colors

My client Deborah and her family have moved and luckily all of the timeless furniture we chose for her big bedroom makeover in her last home, fits perfectly into the new one. However, what she didn't like were the gray hardwood floors and the paint color she inherited. But, after living with these finishes during the pandemic, she asked me to come over and spec a new paint color. Get the full list of all complex creams, in all four shades (which are the palest of beiges) in my system here. I always place whiteboards BEHIND the color I'm testing, as you'll see below when I chose the color for the island, but in this case we weren't swayed by the gray behind it. But in general, you always want to create a clean backdrop behind the paint colors you're testing so you don't start making decisions and comparing yourself to the old paint color. After the new paint color appeared, Deborah reported that she felt like the sun was shining every time she entered the house. Introduce natural fiber rugs to warm floors:

Natural jute rugs are the easiest way to bring lots of warmth into your room, especially if you're decorating around lots of gray finishes. And when I arrived to pick out a new paint color, I suggested she order an even bigger one to put under the dining table. (Do this instead)

The gray island in the kitchen had to be navy blue to bring flow from the large room. So I turned one of my large color swatches to the white side and placed all my navy blues to pick the right one (below):

Then we found a much nicer piece of furniture for that wall in her dining room:

This house does not have an official living room which leaves room for this layout, perfect for entertaining. So if your home is too grey, add jute rugs and cognac pillows to warm things up. Start with an anchor piece

An easy way to create impact is to use a larger wooden piece of furniture, such as a coffee table or sideboard, as a starting point and mix two to three contrasting wood tones around it. Create a harmonious balance
