Many different factors are responsible for algae growth in your aquarium, such as water and weather changes, lighting, direct sunlight, fish waste, high levels of nutrients or chemicals such as than nitrates and phosphates in aquarium or freshwater tank etc. If you want to get rid of algae naturally in an aquarium, you can try controlling sunlight or well-lit areas, nutrients, including algae-eating fish or algae eaters, using many plants live in the aquarium, and finally, maintaining good aquarium maintenance. To get rid of brown algae in a freshwater tank, you can increase light near the aquarium, include algae-eating species, do proper tank maintenance, decrease nutrient usage, and avoid use silicate objects, while in salt water you can use a protein skimmer.

Algae, (or as some of our UK friends pronounce it "Al-Guee"), is a pain that almost every aquarist or hobby aquarist will experience at some point. In this article, I'll cover all the preventative measures that can stop all types of algae in the aquarium (all forms), as well as extreme measures to eliminate the worst types once they strike. Due to the fast growing nature of these plants, they will use up light and nutrients before the algae have a chance. With that in mind, if you have a low-tech aquarium with slow-growing plants, be sure to keep your light levels low, have the proper nutrients, good flow/oxygen, and always plant heavily. Before doing so, make sure you've manually removed as much algae as possible, done a big water change, and of course turned off your aquarium lights.
