Set in an inhospitable environment on a ring road around town, the fire station bends its functions to enclose a training yard, the building's shape derived from tracking the movements of fire trucks leaving and returning at high speed. Fire stations in Ireland are public buildings that people come to - they play an important role in community celebrations like the St. Patrick's Day festival, when firefighters are decorated and parade through the streets of the city - in this context, the enclosure becomes an urban space, its drilling tower a reminder of distant urban monuments, a piece of town in a wild environment. Shaped around active duty, the fire station offers where speed and technical readiness are paramount, a clear dynamic form with essential functions on the ground floor encloses a convenient courtyard that protects personnel and equipment from vandalism potential. Thus, the concept of the Station is like a big house, with people arriving at different times, some sleeping, others awake - linked spaces conducive to family life, facilitating everything from serious training, individual study, communal leisure, up to the preparation of Sunday dinner in the heart of operations – the canteen.
