Same Tile In Shower And On Floor Of Bathroom?
It's a small bathroom, so I thought the "flow" would be better with the same tile. But my question for you is this: I've looked at a lot of photos online and it seems like most people don't. the same tile on the floor and on the wall. It's not our forever home, so I don't want to tie new owners to one color scheme and I like neutral tiles best. The Dos And Don’Ts Of Tiling A Small Bathroom
With the abundance of designs and colors on the market today, choosing tiles that can visually expand a small space is easier than ever. Whether you choose mosaics, large tiles, or a combination of sizes, keep in mind that tile installation is usually permanent and can be expensive in terms of materials and labor. Measure the space carefullyAccurate measurements are a crucial first step in any tiling project, but especially in the probably awkward layout of your cramped bathroom. The exact amount of waste will depend on your tile size and layout, but 15% (up to 20%, in cases where the space has lots of corners or a diagonal layout) of the calculated square footage squares is a safe bet. Having to stop mid-work to regroup is bad enough, but in the worst case, you might find that the store is running out of your particular tiles. Ordering tiles 15-20% more than you plan to use will help you avoid miscalculations, breakage, and irregularly sized cuts to fit the space. Check to see if your retailer will allow refunds for unused tiles or unopened boxes, or start imagining projects to do with the spares. Think small
In addition to injecting your bathroom with the look of a professional spa, covering your space with mosaic tiles also visually expands the limited square footage of the bathroom. One-inch tiles on walls, floors, shower stalls, and even ceilings trick the brain into thinking the space is bigger just because there are so many round or square tiles lined up. Just like small 1-inch tiles, large tiles can actually make the small space appear larger. Here's how it works: our brain associates large tiles with a large space, so seeing them in a smaller frame tricks us into thinking the room is bigger than we know. If you're ready to adopt an extra-wide tile treatment on your floors, consider continuing them up the walls to the height of a chair rail for added impact. Otherwise soft floors cause tiles to crack or loosen and uneven walls allow moisture to seep behind the tiles causing them to loosen and fall off which is not exactly what you want see shortly after completing a labor-intensive project. In addition to leveling any uneven surface, also make sure to always remove wallpaper from the walls and sand the surface before applying the tiles. Place the tiles in a diagonal pattern
Here's another optical illusion that can work in your favor: Tiles laid diagonally across the floor can help a small bathroom appear larger than its actual size. Advertising
Do not use glossy tiles on a floor
While shiny tiles and polished stone can look very luxurious, ignore these materials for the bathroom floor.
